On May 31, worldwide World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is celebrated by educating the general public approximately the risks of smoking, the different rules and regulations being practiced by the tobacco organizations, World Health Organization’s (WHO) activities to fight tobacco use, and how human beings can participate in activities throughout the world to enhance their fitness and healthy lifestyle.

Annually, around eight million human beings are killed by Tobacco.  Further, Tobacco cultivation annually destroys about 3.5 million hectares of land, and devastates the environments, which can be essential for our fitness and well-being. Tobacco harms the surroundings, contributing to deforestation and soil erosion, rendering the soil infertile for different crops or plants.

The campaigns aim is to elevate public cognizance of tobaccos intense environmental impacts, such as its cultivation, manufacture, distribution, and waste. The campaign recommends that governments and politicians make regulations, such as imposing and enhancing schemes that make the cigarette organizations liable for the environmental and monetary implications of waste.

The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) encourages different parties and organizations to take steps to encourage tobacco cessation and provide proper measures to deal with tobacco addiction. WHO is working with different countries worldwide to help people quit smoking through various campaigns, workshops and educating them to lead a tobacco-free and good quality of life. (who.int)
